LITTLE ROCK (12-3)

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has announced the award of funding to applicants for “Recreational Trails Program” projects in Arkansas , according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.  The program is a Federally-funded initiative of the 2005 Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).

“This program is directed toward developing and maintaining trails for recreational purposes throughout the state,” said Flowers.  “We selected 26 projects to receive $1.3 million in funding.  The program was very competitive.  We received 50 applications requesting over $3.5 million.”
